Backstory

NOTE: This post tells the backstory of my Urban Dead character, Magnar Thomas of the Know Nothings.

The survivor known as Magnar Thomas has had a troubled past. A resident of Malton, he was employed with the NecroTech agency. Prior to the Outbreak his work focused on DNA extraction and cataloging, technology used and employed today. He had no part in the infection virus or revivification technologies. When the Outbreak started he was one of the first to suspect what happened and who was to blame. Out of shame he left NecroTech.

Initially he survived day to day doing what little he could to survive and help others to. His days spent holed up in a lab and on a computer left him few practical skills. However, each day he got a little more smarter and was of more help. When the revivification syringes became available he helped raid NecroTech buildings for them. As they became more available the Department of Emergancy Management, the only recognizable remains of the city government, set up the Malton Forensic Unit to specialize in revivification. Magnar Thomas volunteered his skills and services to this cause.

However, not all went well with the MFU. Rather then put him on the field to do what he wanted, to help, his superiors drowned him in a flood of required reading and policies. Flustered, he fled after only two days of employment. He wandered down to his home suburb of Miltown and did what he could to help local survivors.

As he worked each day, he noticed a group of survivors working together for the suburb. They spoke little and asked for no praise, but just got the job done. After a few weeks watching this group he started to ask other survivors and found that they were known as the Know Nothings. When approached by other survivors they often replied they knew just that: nothing. But they got the job done. Miltown survived.

Finally Magnar Thomas approached a member, Mark Hutley and asked him about joining. He then learned that the Know Nothings had been watching him as well. Nothing he had saw of their work would have led him to believe this. But it was true. The Know Nothings readily accepted him into their ignorant clan and he has continued to work with them since.
